HOTEL WITH THE BEST VIEWS OF KUALA LUMPUR: TRADERS HOTEL BY SHANGRI-LA

Arriving in Malaysia's capital city wasn't new to us. Kuala Lumpur has always been our entering point when travelling to Southeast Asia, yet after too many layovers to count we had yet to go beyond the airport doors. So the moment we landed and finally stepped outside the KLIA airport, butterflies kicked in as the time had finally arrived to experience this incredible city.

Looking back on our time in KL, we kept coming back to our favourite spot - the Petronas Towers, and any hotel that can boast an epic view of these twin towers is a winner in our eyes. So imagine our reactions when we walked into our room at the Traders Hotel and were greeted to this view...

Checking in: Traders Hotel

Before checking into this hotel you can't help but stop and look behind you at the stunning cityscape that greets you. Situated in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Traders Hotel has something very rare - a promise of no obstructions between it and the Petronas Towers... however, when we arrived on a clear night we couldn't see the towers anywhere!

We had seen so many night photos of the towers sparkling away, brightening up the city and now that we were finally in their presence we could barely pick them out in the shadows, we were so confused on what was going on, a little disappointed to be honest.

Entering reception we went up to the desk and we simply asked "What happened to the towers, do they switch the lights off at night"? This is when we found out it was Earth Hour! This world wide annual event sees some of the world's most iconic monuments (including the Eiffel Tower & the Sydney Opera House) switch it's lights off for an hour to create awareness for climate change.

The Room + That View

Our Traders Club Room was exactly what we needed after a long day of travel. With a king size bed, free wifi, flat screen TV, stunning bathroom and huge windows looking out over the city - this was the perfect room for us.

Before unpacking, we set up the cameras ready to capture the moment Earth Hour ended and watch the twin towers light back up. 30 minutes after check in we were greeted, from our bedroom, the Petronas Towers switching on in all their glory... it was well worth the wait. It was such a stunning sight to see and one we are sure not many get to experience. We have already vowed that we need to come back, stay in this exact same room and count down the New Year whilst watching the fireworks from the comfort of our bed!

The Traders Club Experience

Something unique about Traders Hotel is the Traders Club. If you book a Traders Club Room you get access to the traders club services & the lounge - something we totally think is worth the upgrade. If you are a frequent traveller like us, it's always nice to have a few little luxuries every once and awhile.

The Traders Club Lounge offers:

  • Check-in and check-out on the club floor

  • Free Wi-Fi Internet access

  • Free breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails at the Traders Club Lounge

  • Free beverages throughout the day at the Traders Club Lounge

  • Fresh fruits available on a daily basis

  • Local newspapers available upon request

  • Free suit pressing and shoeshine service

  • Free 2-hour use of a meeting room

  • Concierge service

Though we usually don't highlight the club services in our review, in this case it was a lifesaver. Our departure was not till 9pm that night so being able to relax in the Club Lounge until then was an absolute pleasure.

The Famous Sky Bar

Hands down our favourite thing about our stay at Traders Hotel has got to be the Sky Bar. Located on the 33rd floor, this bar transforms from a day hang out spot by the pool to a night of cocktails and dancing. The Sky Bar features a variety of cocktails, nightly DJs and amazing views of the Petronas Twin Towers from its cabana booths.

We highly recommend booking one of the cabanas and spend your afternoon sipping on a cocktail as you watch the sunset from the best view spot in the city!
