We completely fell in love with Ubud after we spent a few days exploring the land, tasting the food and seeing the sights. We think you will fall in love with Ubud too if follow this little guide.

We have come up with a list of our 10 favourite things to eat, see & do in Ubud, Bali.

Where to Eat

The Seeds of Life

This raw foods cafe has the best naga bowls in town. When visiting Ubud it is all about the fresh fruit, raw foods and healthy eating and this cafe knows how it's done. They also serve delicious juices, and fresh breakfast and lunch meals.

Freak Coffee

Ubud knows how to make good coffee, and Freak knows how to do it best. Freak stands for Fresh Roasted Enak Arabica, which they say is sweeter, less bitter and richer in taste. The coffee beans are grown locally which means you can grab a espresso that has been roasted within 24 hours. They also offer super yummy vegan cakes that go well with their amazing cups of coffee.

Lamak

If you are looking for a restaurant serving amazing food from around the world you have to check out Lamak. Lamak offers outdoor seating in beautiful tropical gardens where you can look out at the bustling open kitchen which we loved. It is a little pricey compared to other Balinese restaurant, yet still so much cheaper than the food back home. The food is amazing and worth those few extra rupiah.

What to See

Monkey Forest

One of the more popular destinations in Ubud due to its central location, temple sightseeing and the hundreds of monkeys inhabiting the place. If you are brave enough you can purchase a bunch of bananas to feed to the monkeys,  but watch out as they can get quite cheeky when they know you have food to give.

Gunung Kawi Temple

There are some magnificent temples found throughout Ubud, but our favourite has got to be the Gunung Kawi Temple. It is one of the oldest and most remarkable temples in all of Bali. After walking down a lot of steps, yes there are a lot, you end up in a valley surrounded by giant statues carved out of the cliff walls. It is one of the most beautiful temples we have ever been to in Asia, so far.

Coffee Plantations

When visiting Ubud you can not miss a visit to a coffee plantation. They are some of the most beautiful places to try Balinese coffee and tea, overlooking stunning rice terraces. When visiting you have to try the Kopi Luwak, one of the worlds most expensive coffees. The reason it is so expensive? The coffee is made from cat poop. If you are now intrigued you can read about our expensive here.

What to Do

Hike Mt Batur

One of the most physically rewarding challenges we have ever done is hike to the top of Mt Batur. Mt Batur is an active volcano in Ubud, rising 5,633 feet. Certainly not for the faint hearted, the three hour trek starts at 4am to ensure you get to the top just before sunrise.

Cycle through rice terraces

Cycling is the best way to see Ubud and all its beauty. Spend a day cycling through local farms and rice fields. The ride is easy as Ubud is quite a flat area and there are always local farmers working away in the fields happy to say hello. We recommend spending some time also cycling through the backstreets of Ubud as you get to see local Balinese homes and local markets that are out of eye from tourists driving through Ubud.

Yoga & Pilates

Ubud is one of the best places to travel to if you want to unwind and disconnect for a few days. I suggest heading to a local yoga and/or pilates studio to start your mornings feeling fresh and full of energy. There are many that are located within the beautiful Ubud rice fields which is an amazing place to meditate and get connected with nature.

White Water Rafting

For the more adventurous why not spend a day white water rafting. Ubud have routes for all different levels so anyone can have a go. When we visited Bali, my first international trip back in 2009, we had the most amazing day in Ubud white water rafting down rapids and waterfalls.
