EATING OUR WAY AROUND LA
If you watch our daily vlogs you would know that we love our food. So, this may come as a surprise to you - we have never been on a food tour before!
During our few days here in Los Angeles LA Insider Tours took us out on a 5 hour food tour through Downtown LA, taking us to some really cool places to eat and things to see. We can officially say we are now food tour junkies!
Where and what did we eat, you ask?
Intelligentsia
After being picked up in a luxury SUV the first stop on the tour had to be coffee. We headed to Silver Lake, an upcoming neighbourhood that had a cool indie vibe to it and made our way to Intelligentsia, a cafe which reflected the hipster-style of the area.
We ordered a mocha and a latte to go and headed to the rooftop of an apartment block next door to enjoy our coffee (the perks of your guide living in the area). We sipped on some of the best coffee we have had here in the US and took in the incredible views of Los Angeles, Hollywood sign and all.

Dinette
Our next stop was a cute sidewalk eatery in Echo Park, Dinette, which added nicely to the hipster theme. For breakfast we ordered the avocado toast with freshly baked bread piled with chopped avocado and red pepper flakes and the waffles smothered with maple syrup, cream and topped with fresh strawberries. Seriously, the tastiest breakfast we have had in a while.
After munching down on our breakie and chilling with our guide we headed to a hidden park which gave us spectacular views of downtown's city skyline. We never knew LA had so many beautiful parks, you just need to know where to look!

Grand Central Market
For lunch we headed into the heart of Downtown to Grand Central Market. Open since 1917 it is now the place to go to grab a good bite to eat at a number of vendors that are now permanently located within the markets.
We told our guide that we wanted to try something different which led to us trying Salvadorian food for the first time at Sarita's Pupuseria. We had the handmade pupusa's, a traditional Salvadorian dish made of thick, handmade corn tortilla filled with cheese and topped with coleslaw.
Keeping with the Spanish theme we burned our lunch off walking along Los Angeles oldest streets, Olvera Street. With buildings lining the street dating back to 1818, the area is rich in history. We walked down the cobblestoned sideway, wandering past the many vendors selling authentic Mexican items.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams
We can't think of a better way to end a food tour then with some delicious ice cream, and Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams delivered! We both went for a waffle cone with a scoop of nadali estate vanilla bean & a scoop of milkiest chocolate. The perfect end to the perfect day.
