GUIDE TO VANCOUVER NEIGHBOURHOODS

We have been living as expats in Vancouver, British Columbia for almost 3 months now, and have been in love with the city since day one. When we first arrived in Vancouver we were overwhelmed by how many neighbourhoods make up Vancouver and how different they are to one another.

Here is our complete guide to some of our favourite neighbourhoods in Vancouver.

Gastown

Gastown is seriously beautiful. It is such a historic district with cobblestone streets lined with Victorian buildings. You will find upscale clothing boutiques, the best coffee in all of Vancouver and Gastown's famous steam clock.

Chinatown

Rich in history and architecture, this area boasts North America's third largest Chinatown after New York and San Fransisco. The highlights of Chinatown include the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, the festivals and parades that Chinatown holds year long and the summertime Night Market.

Granville Street

Located in the heart of Vancouver, here is where you will find Vancouver's main entertainment district. Restaurants, bars and nightclubs line the street making it a popular late-night hangout. The Pacific Centre shopping mall is a great place to find the latest fashions, while he section between Robson and Drake street hold a collection of cute boutique shops.

Granville Island

You can easily spend an entire day at Granville Island. The island offers a full day of shopping and eating, with bustling markets full of delicious food and fresh produce. The oldest brewery in British Columbia is also found here, the Granville Island Brewing Company. So spend your day sampling fresh foods, good beer whilst watching street performers.

Robson Street

If it is a day full of shopping that you are after then Robson Street is for you. The streets are lined with independent boutiques to big-name stores. There is also an abundant of coffee shops, amazing restaurants and bars, giving you an amazing choice of where you would like to take a break from shopping.

Commercial Drive

This fun, bohemian style neighbourhood is full of multicultural shopping and cuisine. Known as "The Drive", it is the place to be for the young and hip Vancouver crowd. If you want to get away from the touristy-areas and feel like one of the locals then come visit this strip.

West End

West End is a beautiful neighbourhood. It is organised around Denman Street between Robson and Davie streets and bordered to the south by English Bay. It is your gateway to the amazing Stanley Park (which needs a blog post on its own). It is primarily a residential area, and is one of the most densely populated areas in all of Canada. The neighbourhood is full of coffee shops, amazing restaurants and plenty of boutiques and shops.

Yaletown

If you are visiting Vancouver and not sure which neighbourhood you want to stay in we highly suggest Yaletown. We think it is Vancouver's hippest areas, filled with cute cafes, trendy restaurants, amazing nightlife, water front views and gorgeous parks. You can people watch as you stroll along the seawall as cyclists, rollerbladers and couples walking their dogs pass by. If you watch our daily vlogs you will see how many times we come and visit Yaletown and can never stop raving about this neighbourhoods cool vibe.

Kitsilano

Locally known as "Kits", it is known as the most popular neighbourhood by the Vancouver locals. The majority that reside here are young professionals and there is a lot to see and do. There is Kits Beach, the Kits Pool, amazing museums in Vanier Park and amazing places to shop and eat on West 4th Ave.

Kitsilano Beach is a beautiful beach along English Bay facing the North Shore mountains. This beach is the spot for sunbathing, swimming, beach volleyball, dog-walking, and socialising.
