We are both lovers of the outdoors. Whenever we travel we seem to jam our day with so many activities that by the end we need a holiday from our holiday! One of the ways we love to explore new places is by going on hikes and treks. Whilst we were in Ubud, Bali we climbed to the top of an active volcano and watched the sunrise. It has been our greatest physical accomplishment so far and we have since become addicted.

We have compiled a list of the top 10 treks around the world that have been added to our ever growing bucket list.

10. The Cinque Terre, Italy

Imagine hiking this 10km rugged coastline in Northern Italy. The Cinque Terre (meaning five lands) allows you to trek though 5 tiny Medieval towns. The mountains are covered in ancient terraced vineyards strung along the edge of the sea.

9. The Great Wall of China

The famous Great Wall oozes history as it winds for thousands of kilometres along the border of the ancient Chinese Empire. Who wouldn't want to say they walked along the only man-made structure seen from space?

8. The Snowman Trek, Bhutan

Undertaken by only a handful of trekkers each season, the trek is a challenging 27 day, 4,500m journey. You follow trails through yak herders encampments, isolated farming settlements, buddhist monasteries and secluded villages.

6. West Highland Way, Scotland

If more of a flat, long distance trek is your thing then you should look into West Highland Way in Scotland. About 85,000 people use the 150km path every year, of whom over 30,000 walk the entire route.

5. Zion Narrows, Utah

The Narrows is an unusual hike as a third of the route is in water. Most hikers will wade at least waist deep and many will swim a few short sections.

3. Lalalau Trail, Lauai, Hawaii

This strenuous trail runs for 18km (11 miles). It is known for is beauty, remoteness and difficult terrian. Experienced hikers can complete this in 1 day, however most opt for the 2 day trek and camp on the beach at Hanakoa Valley.
