Fly Over the Bungle Bungles
One of the most epic parts of our time in the Kimberley was our day tour from Kununurra to Purnululu National Park to see the Bungle Bungles with Kingfisher tours. Our day trip involved a flight, 4WD, and a hike! We were guided by a local tour guide who shared this beautiful part of Australia with us.
If you have never seen them, the Bungle Bungles are orange and black sandstone domes known as one of the most fascinating landmarks in the world! It is a world heritage site as well and well worth spending a day exploring!
2. Day Trip to Mitchell Falls
Another fantastic day trip that we recommend on this side of Australia is the Kingfisher day tour of Mitchell Falls. You can hike the Punamii-unpuu Hiking Trail, see some ancient rock paintings, and visit the iconic Mitchell Falls.
Because we had little Hunter with us, we took a flight, 4WD, and then instead of the hike, we took a helicopter to the top of the falls. We enjoyed a nice picnic overlooking the breathtaking falls and Hunter loved cooling off in the shallow pools near Mitchell Falls.

3. Spend the Night at Lake Argyle Caravan Park
You probably didn’t expect there to be a caravan park in the list, but Lake Argyle Caravan Park is one of our favourites we have stayed at and just had to make the list! It is home to one of the most photographed pools in all of Australia, and there's nothing that beats the view from their infinity pool!
If you like a luxury but don't want to pay a whole lot, this is a great choice. It is really like staying at a resort, and there are so many things to do in the area and has spectacular scenic views!
4. Explore El Questro
We had to say goodbye to our van for this trip, as you need 4WD access as you traverse over river crossings just to enter the area. We stayed at The Station, sleeping in one of their rooms over looking a beautiful river surrounded by native bushland.
We highly recommend getting up early to soak in the Zebedee Hot Springs! It only costs $11 to enter the hot springs, and these thermal pools are one of the best ways to wind down and appreciate the beautiful wilderness park. You can also see a fantastic sunset from Pigeonhole Lookout! It is a bumpy drive up with a river crossing or two, but the view is worth it.
5. Relax in Broome
Broome is a tropical getaway that can not be missed when heading to North-West Australia. With red dirt juxtaposed next to the aqua ocean, you will have views for days and experience a vibe unlike anywhere else in Western Australia.
We highly recommend trying the local ginger beer at Matsos, which is also a fantastic place to stop for lunch! Cable Beach is known for having some of the best sunsets in all of Australia. You can watch the camels roam, have a picnic, or even take a camel tour and watch the sunset from the camel's back!
