STAYING ON A PRIVATE ISLAND IN FIJI | TOBERUA ISLAND RESORT
If you are looking for a unique, yet affordable way to experience Fiji I think we may have found just that! During our recent travels through Fiji we had the opportunity to spend 3 nights on the private island of Toberua - spending our time snorkelling, sunbathing and relaxing. For just over $200USD per night during off season you can enjoy staying in our very own Tropical Bure right on the water.
If you are busy planning your next summer getaway, we are here to convince you why Fiji is the place to go! Check out our YouTube video below of our time at Toberua Island Resort and keep scrolling for more info!

Toberua Island Resort: Checking In
As Toberua is located on its own private island the only way you can get there is by speedboat. After flying into Suva we were picked up by a taxi and driven around 15 minutes to a little jetty where our boat from the resort was waiting. We were surrounded by lush mangroves as the speedboat took us out to the open waters and 20 minutes later we began to see a tiny island coming closer in the distance.
It felt like we had just arrived on our own little piece of heaven. White sandy beaches, palm trees everywhere and barely any other guests in sight. As we pulled up to the dock we were greeted by friendly staff singing and playing music as we were taken on a short tour around the island before arriving at our beautiful Premium Bure with the beach right at our doorstep.
The Room
Opening out to a terrace with breathtaking ocean views, our Premium Bungalow featured beautiful wood-beamed ceilings, large king size bed, indoor and outdoor shower area, our own hammock and our favourite part, a little walkway leading us straight into the ocean.
If you are looking for a place to stay that feels authentic and rustic this resort is perfect. Instead of air conditioning you have the sea breeze blowing through your wooden shutters and a thatched roof that makes you feel like you're staying in our own wooden hut on the beach.
The Food
Out of all the places we have stayed in Fiji, Toberua hands down cooks the best food! Gourmet meals are served in the indoor/outdoor restaurant with their menu offering a range of fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood, New Zealand beef and lamb, freshly baked breads and delicious desserts. Enjoying each meal sitting underneath the shade of a palm tree with the sand between our toes is what tropical holidays are all about.
Breakfasts consist of buffet style continental options along with a cooked hot breakfast of your choice, lunch is a three course meal prepared by the local Fijian chefs, and the dinners are a four course meal along with live music played each night.
We recommend grabbing their meal plan that costs around 70USD a day and you will never go hungry!
The Activities
When you're not lounging by the beach, the resort has a bunch of complimentary activities available. They have snorkelling, stand up paddle boards, kayaking, volleyball, boardgames, books and even golf all available anytime you please.
If you are looking for something a little more adventurous they also organise a paid tour each day which you can sign up for. During our stay we visited a nearby local village where we learnt about their culture and even participated in a kava ceremony. We also spent a day out on Picnic Island, which is a tiny sand cay around 20 minute boat ride from the resort. The snorkelling here is incredible and the staff brought over lunch and cold drinks for us to enjoy throughout the day.
