OUR CITY STAY IN KYOTO | APARTMENT HOTEL MIMARU KYOTO KARASUMA OIKE NORTH
Checking in to APARTMENT HOTEL MIMARU KYOTO KARASUMA OIKE NORTH
Staying at APARTMENT HOTEL MIMARU KYOTO KARASUMA OIKE NORTH feels like a home away from home. They offer large, comfortable apartments that can accommodate from 5 up to 8 people. We loved that our room had a Western and Japanese mix, with a traditional tatami matted area, where the low dining table (known as a chabudai) can be packed away and replaced with a futon bed that can be set up on the floor!
Our room also features a full lounge area with large table and TV to chill out in. The bathroom is spacious with a lovely shower plus bottles of soap, shampoo and conditioner. If you need anything else they also have other toiletries such as toothbrushes available from the reception.
Our room had it's very own kitchen equipped with everything you need. A refrigerator, microwave oven, stove top and electric kettle is all available as well as plenty of kitchen tools, plates and cutlery. They even have a toaster and a rice cooker available at the front desk for you to borrow. There is a supermarket just down the road so you can easily pick up some supplies if you are wanting to cook a meal in your room for the night.
There is also a laundromat located on the 1st floor as well as board games and books available for rent at the front desk which we thought is a really nice touch. For those who are a bit worried about the language barrier in Japan, the friendly staff at MIMARU all speak english and they are happy to provide you tops on sightseeing.

Things To Do in Kyoto
Fushimi Inari Shrine: This magical, seemingly unending path of over 5000 bright orange torii gates is one of the most stunning shrines we have ever seen. The gates wind through the hills, making for a beautiful hike. The shrine is dedicated to the god of rice and sake back in the 8th century.
Fire Ramen: Menbakaichidai’s fire ramen is one of the most unique ramen experience here in Kyoto. Your ramen is literally served to you on fire - and is one of the tastiest ramen dishes we have tried here in Japan!
Nichiki Market: Nicknamed “Kyoto’s Kitchen”, Nishiki Market is a long and narrow shopping street with hundreds of food shops and restaurants lining either side. It’s only a 5 minute walk from Shijo subway station, and is a Japanese food lovers dream. We tried all sorts of food while we were here, including okonomiyaki and teppanyaki - two of our favourite dishes here in Japan.
Day trip to Nara: We highly recommend catching the 1.5 hour train to a small town called Nara. Here you can find local deer roaming the parks waiting for you to give them a tasty deer biscuit ... they will even bow as long as you bow back.
Roam through Higashiyama District: This is one of the city's best preserved historic districts. It is a great place to experience traditional old Kyoto, especially between Kiyomizudera and Yasaka Shrine, filled with narrow lanes, wooden buildings and traditional merchant shops.
