The Maldives is the perfect place to go when you need somewhere to switch off and get away from the hustle & bustle of city life. Most islands have the "no shoes, no news" concept, so when you arrive store away the shoes, switch your phone to aeroplane mode, go grab a cocktail and just sit back and relax.

Scattered across the Indian Ocean, the Maldives comprises of thousands tiny islands, only two hundred of which are inhabited. It won't be hard for you to find a beautiful beach to go and spend your days when you're here.

4. The glow-in-the-dark beaches
We are sure you're aware of the Maldives stunning beaches by now, but when the sun goes down it gets even more spectacular. A natural phenomenon where bioluminescent plankton creates a sea of stars that wash up on a beach in Vaadhoo, an island in Raa Atoll, creating an unforgettable and breathtaking display. This is something you need to see with your very own eyes!
5. Flying in a seaplane
Our visit to the Maldives was were we had our first ever seaplane experience - and we are now obsessed. There is just something really cool about taking off and landing in the water, and the views you get from the atolls below are seriously breathtaking! The only way to get to most resorts are via seaplane or boast and we highly recommend you choose seaplane.
6. Staying in an overwater bungalow
When visiting the Maldives we highly recommend you consider going for the upgrade and staying in an overwater bungalow. Waking up to the panoramic views of the turquoise sea with only the sound being the waves lapping against the stilts of your villa - this is the ultimate Maldivian experience. But our favourite part has to be having the colourful corals and rich marine life right outside our doorstep.
7. The beautiful dining locations
The food in the Maldives is some of the best we have ever had! While resorts embrace international flavours, local venues tend to offer the more authentic Maldivian experience. If you get a chance to try the local cuisine we say go for it!
Traditional eateries offer dishes mainly based around fish that are usually spicy and most times featuring coconut. Sampling the spicy flavours of the Maldives is an essential part of the unique island experience - and the locations you get to taste the foods are unforgettable.
8. The stunning Maldivian sunsets
Yes you can experience a sunset anywhere in the world, but a Maldivian sunset is anything but ordinary. During the day in this tropical paradise you will be surrounded by greens of the palm trees and blues of the oceans. But when the light begins to fade, the other half of the colour spectrum comes alive with bright oranges, yellows and reds filling the sky.
9. So many water sports
If your a bit of an adrenaline junkie than you need to pack your bags and head straight to the Maldives. From sailing on a catamaran, to scuba diving, kite surfing or jet skiing - the Maldives has it all!
10. Visit before it's literally too late
If you didn't know Maldives is the world's lowest lying nation, at only 1.3 metres above sea level. If the sea level rises by only another metre, this island nation would become uninhabitable. With the sea levels rising due to unpredictable climate changes, Maldives may disappear from the world sooner than we would like. Make sure you by that plane ticket before paradise is gone forever.
