A NIGHT AT THE CHARLES HOTEL, MUNICH
After spending a luxurious few days at Rocco Forte's The Balmoral in Edinburgh, we simply could not stop raving on about our stay to friends, family and of course our readers. So when the opportunity came to experience another property from their collection we of course said yes!
As our next destination on our Europe trip was Germany we checked into The Charles Hotel, a 5-star hotel located in the heart of Munich.
Overview
Located across from the Old Botanical Gardens, the location of the The Charles Hotel couldn’t be more perfect. It feels as if you are staying in a quiet and calm part of town, even though you are only minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Munich's city center and the convenient central train station. This is one of Munich's more pricey hotels, however as is always the case, the price reflects the high level of quality, service and attention to detail on offer.
Checking Into The Charles Hotel
We were greeted by a friendly doorman who upon arrival took our bags and gave us some refreshing warmed towelettes to defrost our cold fingers from Munich's frosty air. It's these little touches that made our check-in experience welcoming and memorable. When stepping into the reception we found the hotel interior to be beautifully decorated and modern which complimented the exterior of the building. As our room was not quite ready the hotel staff were happy to provide us with a map highlighting some of their personal favourite sights to see whilst we waited for our room to be ready. After an hour of exploring the surrounding area we returned, excited to see where we would be spending the night.
The Room
Once we returned we were escorted by a friendly member of staff to our classic king room. Upon entering we were happily surprised to find it incredibly large, with plenty of room to move. There was a large desk area that is always welcomed in our line of work, along with a cute sofa and complimentary chocolates waiting for us – yum!
The only fault of the room would be the lack of tea and coffee facilities, something we have become accustomed to having upon checking into a room. We were also a little disappointment that the 5 star hotel had some out dated facilities, most notably the askew old TV.
But for what the room lacked in fuelling our caffeine addiction, it made up for in providing such a comfortable stay. With room to move, a lovely work area, gorgeous bathroom with heated floors and a dedicated team to meet guests’ needs, we really found the room a treat to stay in.
The buffet breakfast is an absolute must indulgence, with tables piled with German breads, cakes, cheeses, fruit and even some cheeky bloody Mary's, the perfect way to start the day right. If you have the time be sure to schedule some down time at the spa during your stay, and take a dip in the hotel's gigantic indoor heated pool.
Cute features we could not ignore
Though we didn't mention this in our Balmoral review, we noticed some optional additions Rocco Forte offer for younger visitors that melted our hearts. From a teddy bear tuck-in to a small staircase that allows toddlers to check-in, to breakfast buffet for kids that imitated a bite sized cafe with bite sized food. Certainly these are features that we won't be using till we have kids of our own but will at least provide us with great stories we can share with friends and family that do.
Final Thoughts...
We found perfection in every area of this beautiful hotel. From the welcoming staff, extravagant breakfast, gigantic heated pool and little touches that made us feel at home - The Charles Hotel is a hotel we will be mentioning to all our family and friends (especially those with children).
Rocco Forte's collection is easily becoming one of our favourite choice for a luxurious getaway.
You can book a King Classic Room for AUD$575 per night.
Flying The Nest was welcomed as a guest to The Charles Hotel, however all opinions are our own.
