EXPLORING THE STEEP STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO

We had fallen in love with San Francisco the moment we laid eyes on the beautiful city. It had such stunning architecture and a cool vibe, we wanted to explore it all. We were so excited when The Real SF Tours invited us on an all day trek through 11 neighbourhoods, it was exactly what we were looking for.

We started the day in the Financial District before jumping on the Historic California St Cable Car to the bustling streets of Chinatown. We explored back alleys, saw fortune cookies being made and learnt about the rich history of the area.

We ended up taking a small detour into an underground smugglers tunnel and listened to stories during the prohibition era. We then headed towards the heart of North Beach, where we felt like we had stepped into Italy. Here we went to a cute cafe to have a cheeky danish and a coffee (of course).

After a short bus ride we reached Russian Hill, we thought we had seen amazing architecture from where we were staying, but Russian Hill was something else. The Victorian style houses were stunning and the views from the terraces and hidden gardens were breathtaking, definitely a side to San Fransisco we had yet to see.

After all that walking it was time for a sugar kick. We walked along the water to Ghirardelli Square for yummy chocolate samples and were given a quick rundown on the history of chocolate making back to the 1800's.

We were taken over a secret sidewalk to see breathtaking views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge (the first time seeing both attractions), of course a lot of photographs were taken.

When we arrived at Marina District we found a cool looking organic burger place were we helped ourselves to a much deserved burger. We then bussed it through many neighbourhoods before jumping on the underground trains to our last destination, The Mission District. We walked down streets covered in street art and learnt about their meaning to the people of the area.

After a solid 8 hours of exploring the steep streets of San Fransisco with The Real SF Tours we had a greater appreciation for the culture and history of the city. We highly recommend if you ever find yourself in town to keep a day aside to do a proper, whole day tour so you can truly see everything San Fransisco has to offer.

Tour Price: $65pp for The Real SF Tour.
