EXPLORING OLD HOLLYWOOD

We are quite the movie buffs, which was a large factor in our desire to visit Los Angeles in the first place. We wanted to see where Hollywood began (the town and the business) and being invited on a walking tour by Philip from Felix in Hollywood sounded like the perfect way to do this.

Hollywood Walking Tour

Armed with a photo book and a crazy amount of knowledge, Philip began to capture our imagination as we began walking down memory lane. We were able to stand at the birth place of Hollywood whilst hearing stories about how the first studio's were created, where Hollywood got it's name and why Hollywood is now the home of the entertainment industry.

In only 90 minutes we walked passed 4 major film companies, 3 radio networks, 3 television networks, 5 record companies and 2 world class recording studios that boast more hit records than any other studios on earth! We listened as Philip told us about how each began and their impact on the entertainment industry today.

Who knew that so much of Old Hollywood spanned only 1/2 a mile? Although many of the sites and buildings that are referred to sadly no longer exist, there were still many 'ohh and ahh' moments. We don't want give too much away about what we saw and learnt on the tour as one of the things that made this tour so special was the surprise felt every time Philip told us where we were standing and the history behind it.

As a Hollywood researcher, historian and local, Philip really knows his stuff! Not only was he extraordinarily knowledgable about the history of Hollywood, but he conveys what he knows with such enthusiasm.

After the tour we couldn't help but wonder what other historical events took place as we roamed the streets of Hollywood during our stay in LA. For $40, Philip from Felix in Hollywood will change the way you see Hollywood and the industry.

What historical tours have opened up your minds?

Many thanks to Felix in Hollywood for hosting us. As always, all opinions are our own.
