Walk into any shop a few weeks before Australia Day and you will notice stands full of Aussie themed stick-on tattoos, glow sticks, Mexican hats and Australian flag printed t-shirts, shorts, dresses, hats ... you name it, they've got it.

Grab those Shrimps and Fire Up that Barbie

It is tradition in Australia that on any special event a BBQ is had. Throw on some snags (sausages) and prawns (shrimp) and you're good to go.

Pop on some Tunes

During Australia Day celebrations most Aussies tune into the annual Triple J Hottest 100 countdown. Every year this popular 'youth' radio network countdowns the top 100 songs of the previous year, as voted by its listeners.

Throwing a Hottest 100 Party has become a modern Australia Day tradition. Its a great way to celebrate music from around the world as well as discovering amazing Aussie bands too.

It would feel odd to walk into a house on Australia Day and not have the Australia Day Test on the television. We aren't saying you must sit down and watch it, but at least have it on in the background. Just ensure you join in whenever the crowd cheers.

Australians are known for their love of beer and it's the drink of choice for many Aussie's on Australia Day. A slab is a carton of 24 cans of beer which is picked up from the local bottlo (bottle shop).

In Australia purchasing fireworks is illegal, but firework displays are organised by the local council in most cities around Australia. Something just feels right ending a nation wide celebration with a spectacular firework display surrounded by your family and friends.
