HAPPINESS COMES FROM EXPERIENCES, NOT MATERIAL THINGS

"Collect moments, not things"

People constantly ask us "how can you afford to travel so much" and I believe that it's living by this quote that we are able to make it happen.

Every single day we are constantly bombarded with advertisements for things that will make our lives better. Supposedly by owning and consuming their products we will be happier. We are told we need faster cars, bigger houses, fancier technology, trendier clothes and overfilled draws.

But, are these things reallywhat life is all about? Are these things worth all those hours of working? Do these things really bring lasting happiness?

Times have passed since we worked to meet our basic needs, we now work to keep up with our high profile lifestyles. We work to buy things in order to obtain that momentary thrill we get for doing so. We then buy cabinets, cupboards, storage units to store all the things we needed to have. Don't you find it odd that these things we need are purchased for our convenience and to entertain us, to take us away from the hard work we endured in order to purchase them.

When you think about it most things we purchase are unnecessary. Rather, they were obtained in the pursuit of finding happiness? Underneath it all, that is what the advertisers are selling you - happiness. That high you get when you finally buy that thing you worked so hard for, and when the high fades we look for the next best thing.

It is time we started to collect moments, not things.

Memories remain a whole lifetime, things do not. You won't forget the day you jumped out of that aeroplane. The day you gazed up at the milky way in the middle of a desert. The day your breath was taken away by the landscape you were surrounded by. The day you struggled during an exhausting hike and overcame your pain the moment you finished it.

And it's not just about travelling and experiencing the world. Do you want to spend more of your life at work or spending time with family and friends? Is it worth slaving away for hours on end to buy the latest thing and miss your child's first basketball game or your friends dinner invite? Remember, you only live once - so make it count!

What do you think? I am really interested on your thoughts about this topic?
