AFRAID OF FLYING? HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR THE NERVOUS FLYER

The first time I stepped foot on a plane was when I was 18.. and I was terrified. The whole way to Queensland I was a nervous wreck and squeezed Stephens hand until until it turned blue. It is such a horrible feeling being nervous and anxious during your flight, when you should be feeling excited for the adventure ahead.

Here are some techniques I have used to help me over the years. I am such a better flyer now and I am sure Stephens hand is grateful for it.

1. Sit at the Front

Turbulence feels way more rougher at the back of the plane, so try grab a sit close to the front.

2. Get Comfortable

The more comfortable you are, the easier it is for you to relax. Bring your own blanket and pillow, pop on some socks and snuggle up.

3. Remember ... Planes are the Safest Mode of Transport!

Even though you are thousands of kilometres in the air flying at crazy speeds through the clouds, you are actually travelling the safest way you can. Way more people die every year in car crashes than plane crashes ... yet you aren't arrived to jump into a car are you?

4. Keep Yourself Occupied

We find the most effective way to forget your nervous while flying is to distracted yourself as much as possible. Your mind is your enemy when the nerves kick in. Your mind will race with images of crashes and questioning any strange sound or bump during the flight. Watch a move, do a sudoko, read a book or listen to music. Keeping yourself entertained and engaged during a flight is key to killing those nerves.

5. Avoid Caffeine and Alcohol

Many jump to these two things to try calm their nerves, yet they will do the opposite - making you feel depressed, jumpy and irrational. We think it is better for you to stick with water.

6. Listen to Something Relaxing

There are many apps out there that will give you a range of relaxing music and ambient sounds. Listening to something calming and soothing will help you relax, cut off the sound of any weird plane sounds and may help you doze off for a while.

7. Just Breathe

A key method in helping you overcome those flying nerves is to simply.. breathe. Breathing can have a great calming technique and helps relax your nervous and your mind. Breathing though your nose and out your mouth in a slow and controlled way is the best technique.

Are you a nervous flyer? Any tip you want to share that help you when flying?
