TOP VIDEO GAME TRAVEL DESTINATIONS 2014

If you're like me and enjoy playing games just as much as travel, then you know that games these days are drawing more inspiration from real life locations than ever before. So as 2014 comes to an end and bucket lists for 2015 are starting to be written, I have put together a list of locations you need to add to your lists - based purely on video games released from this year.

Paris - Assassin's Creed Unity

One of the biggest games to come out in 2014 is from the series that takes you on a historical trip around world - Assassin's Creed.  I could almost write a whole article based on the multiple locales this series has been to, but lets just focus on one shall me? The latest entry in the series is set during 18th century Paris and is so intricately designed that you can walk down a specific road and stand in the exact spot in both the game and in real life.

The Himalayas - Far Cry 4

Though set in a fictional re-imaging of The Himalayas, you can't help but feel like you are right there in Nepal whilst you glide your way around the world in your wingsuit. The team of developers headed out to Nepal to draw inspiration for the game world they were designing and to get a feel for the culture they were depicting.

Seattle - Infamous Second Son

Another game on this list that used a real city as a basis for their world is in Infamous Second Son. The developers went as far as contacting local businesses to include in their game to give it that authentic feel and to get as close to real life Seattle as possible.

New Zealand - Lego The Hobbit

Even in block form, New Zealand still provides a stunning backdrop for Middle Earth. Our time in New Zealand has been short and we hope to one day explore it further or even visit Hobbiton one day.

Chicago - Watch Dogs

There seems to be a trend this year in turning well known American cities into playing grounds for gamers. From Cloud Gate to Pawnee, why not explore the world of Watch Dogs first before heading out to see the real thing.

Moscow - Metro Redux

Though maybe not as close to the real life counterpart as some of the other games on the list due to its post apocalyptic setting you can't help but notice the similarities in this nuclear war stricken realisation of Moscow.

New York City - Disney Infinity 2.0 - Marvel Super Heroes

A year can't pass without at least one disaster movie being set in New York City. Taking place during the Avengers movie you can live out your Marvel fantasies by dressing up as your favourite super hero in the big apple.

Your Own Backyard - Sims 4

We are strong believers that you should travel in your own backyard and what better way than to go out and photograph your backyard and then recreate it in The Sims.
