3 DAYS IN WASHINGTON DC

We loved our time in the US capital so much that it made our top 5 cities of 2014! After spending only 3 days in this amazing city we have come up with our top picks of what to do in Washington DC.

Where We Stayed

Carlyle Suites Hotel

Price: $438 for 3 nights

Location: We walked everywhere during our stay in DC, the hotel is in a great location and on such a cute street. We loved the architecture throughout the city and the walk from the hotel down to where all the monuments were was such a treat.

What Tours Do We Recommend?

DC by Foot: Walking Tour of the Monuments

This is a name-your-own-price walking tour. This means that once the tour is done you can pay what you think the tour was worth. The tour gave us a fuller appreciation of this amazing capital city. For around 2 hours we walked all over Washington DC, covering the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, WW2 Monument and Vietnam Memorial and many more. Being guided around DC by someone who taught us so much about this city so rich in history was unforgettable.

Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History: Again, it's FREE

With free admission and open doors 364 days a year, it is the 2nd most visited museum in the world! The museum's collections total over 126 million specimens of plants, animals, fossils, minerals, rocks, meteorites and human cultural artefacts. If you love all this animals, dinosaurs and archeology you have to come visit this museum!

White House Tour: Tour of the Presidents Humble Abode

Something we did not get the chance to do, but we wish we did! Touring the White House is something that does take some planning, and a lot of patience. Firstly, you must contact the office of your Member of Congress and request tickets. You may be waiting up to 5 months to book on the self-guided tours, but we think it is well worth the wait. Who can say they had access to the country's most important residence!

3 DAYS IN WASHINGTON DC

We know the list is short, but we only had 3 days in DC and these were the top of our priorities! If you only have a short time in Washington DC we now have you covered.

Have you visited Washington DC?
