TOP RIDES ON THE GOLD COAST

If you are heading down under to Australia and enjoy thrill seeking rides and fun attractions you can't go past the Gold Coast where you will find an array of theme parks including Movie World and Dreamworld. If you don't have time to check them all out or just want to see the best - we break down our favourite and top rides from both theme parks.

Shrek 4D Adventure - Movie World

Who doesn't love Shrek? This attraction is more of a cinema experience as you are courted into a large theatre, given 3D glasses and warned about moving chairs, spraying water and other objects jumping out of you.

Certainly one for the family and the big kid in all of us the 4D film takes place right after the first movie following the adventures of Shrek once again rescuing Princess Fiona from Lord Farquaad. Your chairs tilt forward, backwards and all around and water is sprayed on you when Donkey sneezes.

Unfortunately this ride is now closed on the Gold Coast.

Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster - Movie World

You walk in expecting a children's ride when you are greeted by the cast of the 2002 movie - yep we are talking Freddie Prince Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Rowan Atkinson. The attraction starts off as your standard horror rides found at moving shows but is quickly turned on it's head when a secret door opens into a large warehouse where the real roller coaster begins.

I think the deceiving layout of the initial stage of the attraction lead to enjoying the ride more than we thought. Seeing everyone scream on the Superman Escape and Lethal Weapon ride meant we knew what was coming - however we were so oblivious to the Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster.

Superman Escape - Movie World

If you enjoy fast roller coasters then this one is for you. On the Superman Escape you go from o-100km in 2 seconds. You can't miss it as you walk into Movie World you look straight up as your ears catch the screams of the latest victims shooting past.

The ride starts off in an interior train station modelled after Metropolis (New York), and without ruining the story you are shortly pushed out into the open by Superman as he flies you high into the sky with plenty of loops and turns to satisfy your thrill itch.

The Claw - Dreamworld

The Claw is a gyro spinning ride that swings from side to side whilst a circular motion of the seats turns you around and around. A great ride for beginners as after a few swings you can predict the movement and prepare yourself which a lot of rides don't allow.

Wipeout at Dreamworld

This is quite a common set up that we have seen replicated in several theme parks we have been in, yet it's an oldie but a goodie!

The Lethal Weapon Ride at Movie World

If you are after high adrenaline, twists, turns, upside down motion while twisting then the Lethal Weapon ride at movie world is here for you. Situated in the back of the theme park this certainly is the craziest ride that you will go on whilst in the Gold Coast. Good idea to buy the photograph of you screaming on the coaster.

The ride has since been re-branded and is now called Arkham Asylum.
