Forming for over 6 million years, this Danxia geological structure was formed by the erosion of red sandstone. Its special geological structure, combined with long-term weathering, freeze-thaw peeling, and wind and water erosion gave rise to its appearance today.

11. Pamukkale Thermal Pools, Turkey

These thermal pools have been used as a day spa since the 2nd century BC. They came about after a shifting of a fault in the valley of the Menderes river. As the fault shifted, hot springs with very high mineral content (giving it that white colour) arose at this location.

10. Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA

This canyon is probably the most beautiful you will ever see. The openings within the roof of the canyon cause beams of light to radiate into the canyon, the sight is breathtaking.

1. Door to hell, Derweze, Turkmenistan

Derweze is rich in natural gas and while drilling in 1971, Soviet geologists tapped into a cavern filled with natural gas. The ground collapsed leaving a large hole 70 meters in diameter. To avoid poisonous gas discharge, it was decided that the best solution would be to burn it off. Geologists expected the fire to use all the fuel in a matter of days, however the gas is still burning today. Locals have dubbed the cavern "The Door of Hell".
