When we arrived in Queenstown, New Zealand we heard constantly from other travellers and even our concierge that we have to try a Fergburger with claims that they sell the best burgers in the world. So we decided to take them up on it.
To be honest after a few days walking around Queenstown we had totally forgotten about Fergburger but after paragliding from Coronet Peak our friendly guide reminded us to try one (did we mention the constant reminders?). So we decided that we deserved a treat after our epic summit adventure and went in to give it a shot.
We were surprised to find that the queue was a two hour wait and after our bellies spoke up we shelved the idea for another day. Next time we returned prepared with a not-too-hungry belly and arrived just before the lunch rush to a modest 20 minute wait and managed to grab one of the few remaining seats. Expect to stand up when eating your burger as this place is always packed.
On top of having the most popular burger joint in town, they have also opened up their own bakery right next door where their rolls are made fresh every day alongside danishes, sausage rolls and other bakery stuff. Fresh buns on a burger is always a great start.
With burger names like “Sweet Bambi”, “Chief Wiggum” and “Cockadoodle Oink” you can almost spend a good amount of time just fascinated in how they get away with these crazy names.
Our burgers arrived and after one bite we knew the wait was worth it as their signature sauce merged with the meat and soft bun. I hate to say it but we have become one of those travellers that will remind others to try a Fergburger when they head into Queenstown.
Where’s the best burger you have ever had?
