5 AMAZING FACTS ABOUT ROTTERDAM NO ONE TOLD YOU

There are plenty of blogs, websites, and publications where you can learn about Rotterdam. Aside from finding an apartment in Rotterdam, you will have no trouble settling down and blending into the city.

What no one will tell you is that the highlights and fun spots of this amazing city are hidden to those who explore the city themselves.

Well, we are going to burst your bubbles and let you into five surprising facts about Rotterdam that no one will tell you unless you visit yourself.

Canals in Rotterdam

Many people think you only find canals in Amsterdam and big blocks of concrete buildings fill up Rotterdam. This is not entirely true. Take a trip down to the city’s historic harbor in Delfshaven, and you will find a canal that runs through Rotterdam to other cities in the Netherlands.

Red Light District

Although Amsterdam has the world-famous Red district, its sister city Rotterdam has its red district which you can only find when you seek them. You will see red lights representing the fire lines from the German Bombings in 1940.

The red lights cover a 12km line with over 400 lights spread across the city.

High-level Cultural Diversity

With over 150 different nationalities in Rotterdam, the city ranks as one of the most multicultural places in the world.

The Only Dutch City with a Skyline

Shame on you Amsterdam! Rotterdam is the only Dutch city with a skyline—very colorful skyline. Doubt that? Take a walk through the Willems Bridge, Erasmus Bridge and any other bridge that goes over the Maas at night and enjoy the beautiful view. Thank me later.

The City Never Sleeps

One good thing about Rotterdam is that the city never goes to bed. You can order dinner by midnight, go to the bar in the early hours and still run into a busy street filled with other people. There is always a big party going on somewhere, and students are always having fun at night.

The city has a bubbling social life that is very infectious. Everyone who has stayed long enough in Rotterdam must love to party.

Weekends are for parties. With lots of bars, pubs, and clubs, you will never run out of the option of a sweet party in Rotterdam. Funny enough, after all the groove every weekend, people still get back to their normal lives and jobs like nothing serious happened.
